Tested positive at work? Get the education your employer or DOT SAP requires, with a clear plan to get back on track.

Most of our substance use work supports employees who need to meet a workplace or return-to-duty requirement. Whether a DOT Substance Abuse Professional (DOT SAP) has recommended education or treatment, or your employer requires cannabis education under its drug-free workplace policy, we provide structured, evidence-based sessions and send documentation of your progress to the people who need it.

Sessions are available in person at our Baltimore office (1340 Smith Avenue, Suite 200) or by secure live video for Maryland residents. Services are provided by Charmaine Nalty, LCSW-C, a DOT-qualified Substance Abuse Professional with experience in workplace substance use.

Who We Serve

• DOT-regulated employees whose DOT SAP has recommended education or treatment before a follow-up evaluation
• Non-DOT employees who tested positive for cannabis, alcohol or other substances and must complete education under their employer’s drug-free workplace policy
• EAP clients with alcohol or drug use concerns
• Adults who want to take an honest look at their use and make a change

We work with adults only.

Please note: DOT rules (49 CFR 40.299) do not allow a DOT SAP to refer employees to their own practice for education or treatment. If we completed your DOT SAP evaluation, we will refer you to an independent provider for the education or treatment we recommend.

Cannabis Education

Cannabis is legal for adults in Maryland, but it is still prohibited for every DOT safety-sensitive employee, and many other employers still test for it. A legal product can still cost you your job.

Our cannabis education helps you understand:

• How cannabis affects reaction time, attention, judgment and memory, and why that matters at work
• How long THC can stay in your system and show up on a test, including edibles, vapes and CBD products
• What DOT rules and your employer’s policy require, and what happens with a second violation
• Your own pattern of use, your risks and your triggers
• A personal plan to stay compliant through return-to-duty and follow-up testing

The number of sessions is based on your DOT SAP’s or employer’s recommendation.

How It Works

1. Intake: We review your referral, test result and the requirements you need to meet, and complete a brief screening.
2. Education and counseling sessions: We use a structured, evidence-based education curriculum along with counseling approaches such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), tailored to your situation.
3. Progress updates: With your written permission, we send attendance and progress updates to your DOT SAP, employer or EAP.
4. Completion: When you finish, you receive a completion letter, and your DOT SAP or employer receives the documentation they need.

If you need a higher level of care than outpatient sessions, we will help connect you with the right provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this satisfy my DOT SAP’s recommendation?
Your DOT SAP decides whether you have complied. We provide the education or treatment they recommend and send them documentation so they can complete your follow-up evaluation.

Can I attend by video?
Yes, if you live in Maryland. Some DOT SAPs or employers require in-person sessions, so check your referral first.

Will my employer see what I say in sessions?
No. With your written consent, we share only what is needed, such as attendance, participation and completion. Session details stay confidential.

Do you prescribe medication or provide detox?
No. We provide outpatient education and counseling only. We do not prescribe medication or provide detox or residential treatment.

Do you take insurance?
We are self-pay. We accept credit and debit cards, HSA/FSA cards and Zelle, and can provide a superbill. See our Fees page for details.
